Contrastive Genre Analysis in Translation Studies:Tourism Websites in China and Australia

本文探讨如何将对比文类分析运用于翻译研究,同时探索文类分析结果如何为翻译实践提供参考和借鉴。在本文中,文类不仅是一个规范性概念,而且被当作一种话语分析的研究工具。据此,文类分析不仅包含对实际文本及其结构特点的分析和描述,同时也研究在特定的社会文化背景下,构建文类和消费文类的过程,本文借助批评话语分析的相关理论以及系统功能语言学和修辞文类研究中相关的文类研究方法,建构新的对比文类分析模型。同时,本文也运用该分析模型对中国和澳大利亚旅游网站进行了对比文类研究,最后,本文讨论了该分析模型在翻译研究及实践中的应用.

This paper considers how contrastive genre analysis can be applicable in translation studies with a view to providing references and insights in translation practice.By taking genre as a descriptive and analytical tool rather than a prescriptive one,genre analysis should not only include descriptions of the characteristics of actual texts,espcially organisational structures,but also needs to include a contextualised perspective on genre with focuses on exploring how the texts were produced and why the texts were produced as they are in the sociocultural contexts.Informed by genre analysis in the traditions of systemic functional linguistics and rhetorical genre studies,and,in particular,drawing on Critical Discourse Analysis,this paper proposes an analytical model of contrastive genre analysis with the aim of applying it in contrastive and translation studies.A sample cross-linguistic genre study on analysing tourism websites produced in China and Australia is used to illustrate the proposed analytical framework.The paper concludes with discussions of its applications in translation studies.
