As syntactical rhetoric devices commonly seen in literary works,climax and anticlimax are figures of speech in which words,phrases and sentences are interlinked and arranged by the degree of increasing or decreasing significance with a smooth tone and an aggressive voice.The usage of climax and anticlimax is conducive to enhancing the rhythm and appeal of a literary work.In Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District,Leskov used climax and anticlimax frequently to describe the natural environment,to portray characters,and to express personal emotions.From the perspective of speech structure,the author of this thesis intends to conduct a brief analysis of climax and anticlimax in Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District from the languages of narrator and characters to display the linguistic charms of the writer and find the connotations of this composition.
