This study was to explore the help-seeking experience of patients with somatization symptoms and the change of their cognitions and attitudes towards the somatization symptoms.Semi-structured in-depth interviews were used to interview 12 participants with somatization symptoms from clinical psychology department.Interviews were recorded on audio-tape with participants'permission and then transcribed verbatim. The transcribed interviews were analyzed according to interpretative phenomenological analysis.Three superordinate themes emerged including the confusion caused by symptoms, the impact of symptoms on current life, and tortuous experience about the diagnosis and treatment. This study suggested that the symptom experience of patients with somatization had the attribute of"embodiment".Professionals should pay attention to their self-explanation system in the intervention to improve the patients'sense of certainty and autonomy.
