Many of Hemingway’s works are famous for writing wars and portraying tough guys, and body narrative can often be seen in his writings. His short story The Snows of Kilimanjaro presents the theme of death while devoting a lot attention to body narrative. The male body is no longer the signifier of masculinity and power possessed by Hemingway’s traditional tough guys, and the female body is gradually reduced to the object of desire and power operation under the male gaze. By deconstructing the tough guys and writing the female body under the gaze, Hemingway not only excavates the physical and mental castration caused by wars in the modern era, but also reveals the gender relationship between "watching" and "watched".
