On Yan Fu’s Translation of Evolution and Ethics and Other Essays from the Perspective of Culture Capital by Pierre Bourdieu

在文化资本的流通中,翻译的作用不容忽视。因为严复翻译了《天演论》,社会进化论的思想才在中国得以广泛传播,其携带的文化资本也因此转移到了译者严复身上。因此,在原有文化资本基础上,严复积累了更多文化资本,他在文学场域乃至权力场域的地位得以提高,影响力持续至今。

In the circulation of the cultural capital,translation plays a pivotal role.It was due to Yan Fu’s translation that the idea of evolution got spread widely in China.And with the translating practice the cultural capital carried by the idea has naturally transferred to the translator Yan Fu.Therefore,based on his original cultural capital,Yan Fu accumulated more cultural capital to have improved his position in the literary field and even the power field so that his influence persists to this day.
