新冠肺炎疫情期间马来西亚主流媒体《每日新闻》涉华报道标题的及物性分析

A Transitivity Analysis of News Headlines about China in the Malaysian Mainstream Media Berita Harian during the COVID-19 Epidemic

文章以系统功能语言学及物性系统理论为框架,通过及物性过程解读马来西亚主流媒体《每日新闻》(Berita Harian)新冠肺炎疫情期间涉华报道标题中的中国形象。研究显示,媒体使用不同的经验功能和不同的参与者角色对中国抗疫行动及相关的国际议题进行报道,其中以中国作为主要施事的动作过程标题居多,这从侧面印证了媒体对于中国抗疫行动的认可;而涉及交流过程及心理过程的标题皆以各国领导人、国际组织作为交流方和感知者,这表明媒体无意加入自我情绪的客观立场。以上表明,媒体有效运用及物性过程与参与者角色配置让新冠议题报道在舆论中显得客观,同时也为中国在马来西亚马来族群中塑造了正面的形象。

This paper interprets the headlines of reports about China in the Malaysian Malay mainstream media Berita Harian from the perspective of the transitivity system within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics.It aims to reveal the image of China in the Malaysian Malay society.The research results show that Berita Harian uses different transitivity processes and semantic configurations of the participants’roles to report on China’s response to COVID-19 and other related international issues.Among them are the majority of the headlines featuring China as the agent of the action process,which is a testament to the media’s recognition of China’s efforts during the anti-epidemic period.Besides,the headlines with communicative and mental processes use country leaders and international organizations as communicators and sensors,which highlights the media’s relative objective stand in reporting the outbreak of the epidemic and global disputes.These demonstrate that the media’s effective employment of transitivity process and role configuration of participants projects a positive image of China among the Malaysian Malay community,as well as objective coverage of the COVID-19.
