Lars von Trier’s movie The House that Jack Built draws lessons from literature, history, religion and other knowledge, and creates an alternative“fusion film”.The film triggers the literary archetype mechanism in the collision of various elements, and shows the characteristics of inheriting and subverting the archetype in the hero image, symbolic image and narrative structure, which endows the film with strong artistic tension and diversified interpretation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the shift of archetypes in the film and to think about the mythological rewriting of modernity from the creator’s point of view.
