A Look at Russia’s Military Buildup in the Arctic

在北极地区军事竞争日趋激烈的背景下,俄罗斯通过升级北极战略、调整北极部队编制、拓展北极军事部署、加强极地军事训练等方式,加速推进其北极军事力量建设,有突破战略围堵、强化战略威慑、抢占战略先机等考量。但主要还是服从和服务于俄国家战略需求,为其北极开发保驾护航。相对于其他环北极国家,俄罗斯的北极军事力量建设具有基础扎实、战略主导、广泛使用新技术等特点,同时也面临自然环境恶劣、地缘环境紧张、内部环境困难等问题。未来,俄罗斯将继续扩大在北极地区的军事存在并保持领先优势,这也将使美国与俄罗斯在北极地区的军事竞争及博弈进一步加剧,对周边地缘政治安全产生影响。

Against the backdrop of increasingly fierce military competition in the Arctic,Russia has accelerated the building of its Arctic military forces by upgrading its Arctic strategy,adjusting its military establishment in the Arctic,and expanding its Arctic military deployment.Compared with other Arctic countries,Russia’s Arctic military buildup is characterized by solid foundation,strategic dominance and extensive use of new technologies,but it is also faced with problems such as harsh natural environment,tense geographical environment and difficult internal environment.In future,Russia will continue to expand its military presence and maintain its leading edge in the Arctic region,which will further aggravate the military competition between the US and Russia in the Arctic,and have an impact on the geopolitical security of the surrounding region.
