Hargrove and His Discrimination between Chinese and Western Environmental Aesthetics

Eugene C.Hargrove is a famous American environmentalists and environmental ethicists. Combining environmental ethics with environmental aesthetics, he tried to define the latter by the former, and promoted the concept of environmental aesthetics to a higher leverl. In comparative study of Chinese and western environmental views, he adhered to the concept of environmental determinism, emphasized the independence of Chinese and western cultures and held a cautious attitude towards how Chinese traditional philosophy view the nature.Hargrove's positive role in the integration of Chinese and Western environmental views lies in that although he does not agree with the thorough reform of environmental ethics with Chinese traditional thoughts, he has begun to accept Chinese traditional view of nature and become aware of the ecological value of Chinese traditional thoughts.
