Writing a Sense of Place in Contemporary Chinese American Literature

地方意识是个体对地方的感知和情感认同,与身份认同密切相关。当代美国华裔跨国、跨文化等多样态的跨界经历使其地方意识的缺失和重构问题日益突显。在对地方意识的追寻和创造过程中,当代美国华裔作家所建构的地方意识主要体现在以原乡为中心的古典恋地情结、以新乡为平台的在地体验、以想象为媒介的理想栖居意识。当代美国华裔作家笔下的地方意识日益呈现动态化、开放性和多元化。

A sense of place is an individual’s perception of,and emotion towards a place,which is closely related to his or her identity.The transboundary experiences of contemporary Chinese Americans,whether transnational,cross-cultural or otherwise,foreground their lack and reconstruction of a sense of place.In the process of pursuing and creating a sense of place,many contemporary Chinese American writers are affected by classical topophilia,centering on their hometown,their local experience based on their current residence,and their idea of the ideal dwelling,mediated by their imagination.As a result,the sense of place in contemporary Chinese American writings is increasingly dynamic,open and diversified.
