William Gibson’s scientific fiction collection Burning Chrome explores the rivalry, alienation and redemption of the post-human body, depicting a metaphor of near-future culture inscribed on the body-mirror.Shaped by newly thriving technology, the present body armed with embodied technology forms a new interface of human-machine coupling and becomes the governing willpower itself, while the absent body is integrated with spirit-flesh separation by disembodied technology into the disembedding mechanism, trapped in the plight of exile and devaluation. In the sphere of capital, the post-human body participates in social construction in the form of container, medium and spectacle, and castrates the subject’s will and emotion under the manipulation of manufacturing machine and the incorporation of consumer culture.Based on value rationality, the collection calls for the return of body standard by pursuing bodily autonomy, respecting bodily experience, and constructing an inter-subjective body aesthetics, and advocates a path of technological humanization as the post body’s supporting value.
