With the acceleration of globalization, there is an increasing demand for the translation of petroleum engineering texts in China. Accuracy of translation plays an important role in promoting the development of petroleum engineering technology. In the process of translation, it is necessary to fully consider the intended purpose of the target text to decide what means should be adopted. Based on Skopos theory, this paper analyzes the syntactic characteristics of petroleum engineering English and discusses the translation skills. Translators are encouraged to do translation with an attitude of excelsior and a vision of development, so that the translation is suitable for professionals of petroleum engineering to read, which can promote their learning and communication.
