当代公众历史记录有着明显的运作规律。公众历史由精英而大众,历史书写权不断开放。个人记忆是公众历史研究的起点,历史记录所做的就是代际记忆联结的工作,由生活世界而文本世界的过程可细分为生活存在、记忆存在、口述存在、文本存在四大形态,前后代间记忆的串联,须借助文本才能实现。公众历史记录重在将片段记忆梳理成系统的文本,文本让人由记忆世界进入文本世界,文本可以弥补大脑记忆的局限性,这是公众历史建构的关键所在。
