张柏然以西方翻译理论为参照,探析中国翻译理论的民族特点。他的比较译学研究主要围绕追溯中西译学根源、梳理译学现代发展、打造中国特色译学理论三个方面展开,旨在通过辩证地吸收西方译学研究成果,实现中国翻译理论现代化,为构建普遍翻译学作出贡献。张柏然在构建中国译学的理据探索和论证中,体现出少有的开创性、前瞻性和世界性。他的比较译学理论始终把握和放眼中西译学理论的过去、现在与未来,强调古今参照,中西融通,不仅打造“民族特色”,更为普通翻译学贡献“中国智慧”。

Most of Zhang Bo-ran’s research on Chinese and Western translation theories focus on tracing their origins by resorting to comparative method,in order to find out the features specific to translation theories in China.His comparative translation studies are mainly done from the following three aspects:tracing the origins,investigating the latest developments,and developing translation theories with Chinese characteristics.The aim is to find out the advantages of Western translation theories,modernize Chinese traditional theories,and finally,contribute to Translation Studies in general.His perspective of building Chinese Translation Studies is always ingenuous,proactive and cosmopolitan.While conducting comparative studies,he always considered the past,present and future of Chinese and Western translation theories as a whole,emphasizing the connection between the old and the new,east and west.His aim is not just to brand theories with“national features”,but to contribute to general translation studies with“Chinese wisdom”.
