Piroctone olamine(OCT),as a mild anti-dandruff agent,has been widely used in personal care products.Its anti-dandruff mechanism,including antibacterial action,antioxidant action and percutaneous absorption,was reviewed.The evaluation of the antidandruff effects of OCT by clinical trials and inhibition zone method was summarized.Its safety and mildness were also summarized,including acute toxicity,chronic toxicity,gene mutagenicity,etc.Moreover,the detection methods and application of OCT were described.
