恩格斯对机器的论述和研究实质上是基于唯物史观对机器的分析和批判。这种批判揭示出机器的本质,是以资产阶级私有制为基础的在大工业中通过自动化加速资本增殖的资本主义应用方式,也揭示了由此带来的历史效应,是资本主义在机器大工业推动生产力发展中造成的社会矛盾。恩格斯在对机器的批判中表达了无产阶级社会革命的立场,展现了机器的变革及其未来是以机器作为物质技术基础不断解放和发展生产力,从而促进人类解放的历史进程。

Engels’ exposition and research on machines was essentially analysis and critique of machines based on historical materialism. His critique revealed that the nature of machines lied in capitalist application based on bourgeois private ownership to accelerate capital proliferation through automation in industry,and also revealed that the historical effect stem from it was social contradictions caused by capitalism in promoting the development of productivity in such industry. Engels expressed the position of proletarian social revolution in his critique of machines,demonstrating that the machines revolution and its future would be the historical process of liberating and developing productivity and promoting human emancipation by using machines as a material and technological basis.
