After the peaceful settlement of Xi′an Incident,Textbook for Soldiers in the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the only book at the time, was not used fully in the Red Army.At the end of May,1937,the General Political Department officially put forward the plan of updating it as a unified political textbook by stages into a series of four textbooks. After the Lugouqiao Incident broke out, with the development of the domestic situation of the war, this plan was not carried out as scheduled.Although another set of Textbook for Soldiers in the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression was published in March,1939,by the Field Political Department of the Eighth Route Army and there were some troops also publishing and using the version as the cultural teaching material,it was not the completion of the previous continuation plan of the General Political Department. At the beginning of 1940,in order to carry out unified and systematic political education in the whole army, the General Political Department of the Central Military Commission rewrote the first and second volumes of the Political Textbook for Soldiers in the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. However, due to the influence of multiple factors, the use of this set of books in various units was also relatively limited.
