The Ocean of Parallel Prose Standards is a collaborated production of Wang Zhijian and the printing house.Because of Wang s strong scholarly awareness,this book has a higher quality than the same type of publication during the late Ming period.The Ocean of Parallel Prose Standards is characterized by its depth in historiography,its insights in history,and its ambition in enlightening future generations.However,with the consideration of marketing and multi-purposes,Wang Zhijian had to cover or adjust his real intent through the means of modification and supplementation so as to create a different and yet comprehensive literary anthology.The complex characteristics of this book can be revealed only by detailed case studies.
