Translators play an indispensable role in the process of cultural communication. This article intends to prove that the key reason for the recognition of the translated version in the West of A Dictionary of Maqiao by Julia Lovell lies in the factor that the translator accurately balanced the ecology between the original language and the target language, giving priority to the readers′ response. At the macro level, she did her utmost to fulfill translator′s responsibility, while at the micro level, she exerted translator′s dominance to achieve the optimal rendition of the source language through abiding by the translation principle of "faithful recreation".As a result, the translated version is not only faithful and fluent, but also acceptable by readers.
