The Tale of Genji and Song of Everlasting Sorrow from the Perspective of Intertextuality

《源氏物语》是日本平安时代女作家紫氏部创作的一部长篇小说,其创作深受白居易诗歌《长恨歌》影响,两者之间从故事情节到人物形象,再到审美意识都存在明显的“互文”关系。紫氏部深谙白居易诗歌,《源氏物语》中与白居易诗歌相关的部分就有近百余处。因此可以说,白居易诗歌构成了解读《源氏物语》的重要“前理解”。紫氏部借用《长恨歌》的“悲剧”情节,既是在歌咏男女主人公之间凄美的爱情故事,也是在悲叹人世盛者必衰的“无常”之道。

The Tale of Genji is a novel by Murasaki Shikibu, a female writer in the Heian Period of Japan, whose creation was deeply influenced by Bai Juyi's poem Song of Everlasting Sorrow, and there is an obvious intertextuality between the two in terms of their plots, characters and aesthetic perception. Murasaki Shikibu was very familiar with Bai Juyi's poems, and there are nearly one hundred places in The Tale of Genji related to Bai Juyi's poems. Therefore, it can be said that Bai Juyi's poems constitute an important "pre-understanding" for the interpretation of The Tale of Genji. By borrowing the tragedy of Song of Everlasting Sorrow, Murasaki Shikibu was not only eulogizing the poignant love story between the hero and heroine, but also lamenting the changeable world with prosperity doomed to fall.
