Economists often point out how official calculations of inflation often deviate considerably from the public perceptions of price increases. This article illustrates the difference between the original concept of inflation and its current forms of measurement, taking into account the changes in our socio-economic structure. It also explores whether asset price changes should be included in the calculation of inflation under our new socio-economic conditions.
