葛浩文夫妇英译《玉米》中的形貌修辞研究

毕飞宇小说《玉米》在英语世界的译介与传播中表现突出,值得学界关注。通过借鉴汉语修辞学中的形貌修辞概念,以《玉米》英译本为例,分析考察其中的字形修辞、排列修辞、标点修辞和图符修辞。研究发现字形修辞、排列修辞和标点修辞在译文中得到强化,提升了译文的视觉效果和认知凸显度,增强了译文的文学性、艺术性和审美性,吸引了读者的注意和兴趣,是葛浩文夫妇为实现整体忠实而发挥的创造性力量;图符修辞在译文中有所弱化,这是葛氏夫妇基于译文读者现实情况做出的选择。

Bi Feiyu’s novel Three Sisters,co-translated by Howard Goldblatt and Sylvia Lichun Lin,has gained popularity and reputation in the Anglophone world,and thus attracted some academic attention.This paper applies typographic rhetoric,a rhetorical device derived from Chinese Rhetoric,to explore and explicate how the form of words,and thus the arrangement of words or sentences,punctuation and graphic symbols are deployed in the translated text.It finds that the conscious application of typographic rhetoric in their translation can enhance the target text’s visual effect,cognitive salience,as well as literary,artistic and aesthetic appeal,which helps to attract the target reader’s attention;also,the graphic symbols of typographic rhetoric are weakened because they want to highlight the sexual implications of these symbols.
