Targeting at school children as the audience, Tim Crouch’s Shakespearean monodrama I, Malvolio transforms a marginalized character in the host play into a narrator. This paper maintains that the monodramatic mode adds a psychological dimension to Malvolio in Shakespeare’s original play, subverts the dominant/passive role of the actors and the audience in the traditional sense, and provides inspiration for children’s drama education in Britain, as well as the development and innovation of children’s drama in the global context, which in turn provides a reference for the modern adaptation of Chinese classical opera.
