The Original Mission and the Commemoration of the Origin: An Analysis of the Grand Historical Theme of Mao Ze-dong’s Establishing the Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC on July 1st

1938年是中国共产党在历史上第一次为自己"庆生"。"七一"建党纪念日的确定,缘起于毛泽东1938年5月26日在延安抗日战争研究会所发表《论持久战》的演讲。两年前共产国际为中国共产党成立15周年举行的隆重庆祝活动则堪称先导,此后,中国共产党人并没有接着举办建党16周年的庆祝活动,这体现了中国共产党人谦谨大器的品质。历史上看,庆祝建党17周年与抗战一周年纪念紧密相连,是毛泽东确定"七一"建党纪念日的历史奥义,更体现了毛泽东"能领先不居后、两个纪念主题"的决策思维。

The year of 1938 witnessed the first anniversary in history in commeration of the birthday of the CPC. The anniversary of the founding of the Party on July 1 st derived from Mao Ze-dong’s speech"On the Protracted War",delivered at the Yan’an Anti-Japanese War Research Institute on May 26 th, 1938. The Communist International’s solemn celebration of the 15 thanniversary of the founding of the CPC in 1936 was prelusive, while the Chinese Communists did not follow it up with a celebration of the 16 thanniversary of the founding of the Party, reflecting their modesty and generosity. Historically, the celebration of the 17 th anniversary of the foundingof the Party was closely linked to the first anniversary of the War against Japanese imperialism. It is the historical essence of Mao Ze-dong’sestablishing the anniversary of the founding of the Party on July 1 st, and reflects Mao’s decisive thought of"taking the lead rather than the back seat, and commemorating two themes".
