A Research on Seven Titles of The Huainanzi

《淮南子》诞生于西汉,吸收了先秦诸家思想而自成一体,内容广博而思想深邃,流传至今已有两千余年。在漫长的流传过程中,《淮南子》曾演变出多个书名,主要有7个:刘安自名《鸿烈》《刘氏之书》,刘向校书后名《淮南》,刘歆书中称《淮南鸿烈》《淮南子》《刘安子》,《宋史·艺文志》记《淮南鸿烈解》,其书名之多在文学史上当属罕见。挖掘书名演变的原因与过程,有利于探析此书的学术流变及其潜在的深层意义,对后世研究《淮南子》乃至西汉学术有重要价值。

Compiled during the early Western Han Dynasty,The Huainanzi has formed its own style on the basis of absorbing the thoughts of the Pre-Qin exponents,in which there are extensive contents and profound thoughts.It has been more than two thousand years since the first appearance of this book.In the slow spread⁃ing process,The Huainanzi has evolved into several titles mainly including seven ones:Hong Lie and Liu’s Book entitled by the author Liu An;Huainan entitled by the editor Liu Xiang;Huainan Honglie,Huainanzi and Liu Anzi called by Liu Xin in his works;Huainan Hong Lie Jie recorded in Yi Wen Zhi of the History of Song Dynasty.It is rarely seen in the history of literature that the book has so many titles.Exploring the cause and process of titles evolution helps to study the academic change of this book and its potential deep meaning,which is of great value to the later study of The Huainanzi and even the Western Han Dynasty.
