乔伊斯《一起惨案》的及物性与叙事操控

Transitivity and narrative control in Joyce’s A Painful Case

詹姆斯·乔伊斯的短篇小说《一起惨案》讲述了关于西尼科太太和达菲先生的两起相互交织的案例。以往研究多关注该文本中叙事操控的具体策略,探讨主题阐释的多种可能性。相比之下,对其语言层面的研究则寥寥无几,且尚未有学者结合叙事学与文体学来解读其叙事效果和叙事目的在语言层面的实现。鉴于此,本文以及物性系统为切入点分析文本中语法编码的规律,以期从一个新的角度解读乔伊斯的叙事操控,加深对乔伊斯语言艺术的理解。

James Joyce’s short story A Painful Case in fact tells the story of two intertwining cases, that of Mrs. Sinico and that of Mr. Duffy. Previous studies tend to focus on the specific strategies of narrative control to explore the possibilities of multiple thematic interpretations. By contrast, there have been few detailed studies of its language. No research has been done through a combination of narrative studies and stylistics, to examine the realization of the text’s narrative effects and aims in its language. In view of this, this paper departs from the linguistic feature of transitivity to examine the patterns of grammatical encoding in A Painful Case, aiming to interpret Joyce’s narrative control from a new perspective and help better understand Joyce’s verbal art.
