An Embodied Cognitive Account for English Collective Classifier Construction

英语集合表量构式作为一个数量巨大的开放类短语量词家族,在研究中并未得到足够的重视。基于体验认知视角,探究集合表量构式内部特征、中心焦点及其形成的理据。研究表明,在容器图式的投射下,原无界名词向有界搭配名词进行类转,推出英语集合表量构式内部整体性和模糊数量性;同时,该构式中N2由N1进行选择修饰,呈现出N1指向N2的隐喻映射模式,由此指示出N2集合体的行为,形状及强度属性,揭示N2的焦点地位。

English collective classifier construction,as an open family of classifier with a large number of members,has not received enough attention in the research.Based on the perspective of embodied cognition,the semantic features,central focus and the rationale of them are studied.The result shows that under the projection of the container schema,unbounded nouns are converted to bounded collocation nouns,which leads to the two semantic features of English collective classifier construction:strong integrity and quantitative vagueness.Still,in the construction,N1 modifies N2,presenting a metaphorical mapping from N1 to N2,thereby indicating the behavior,shape,and strength attributes of the N2 aggregate,revealing the head status of N2.
