Balthus’ s painting art contains the characteristics of western classicism, such as rationality, rigor, calm and so on. At the same time, it is also influenced by Italian humanist painter Francesca and Cubist painter Cezanne, forming a new kind of representational painting. In his youth, Balthus copied and studied a lot of medieval and Renaissance paintings and artistic spirit. The traditional western classical painting spirit deeply influenced him, so we can clearly see the classical and eternal temperament in his paintings. At the same time, in the 20 th century, when artists were emphasizing "individuality", Balthus believed that "commonness" was more important. When contemporary art tends to the mainstream, Balthus insists on bringing classicism back to people’s perspective and bringing back to people’s vision the aesthetic feeling of air condensation of classical painting. The whole picture is calm, mysterious and full of solidification, and he is good at using calm dark colors to express the solidification of the picture. This paper explores the use of color in Balthus’ s character works through the study of his works.
