On December 8,2017,United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)announced that the craft of the miller operating windmills and watermills of the Netherlands was officially inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,marking the most influential efforts to protect and inherit the traditional windmill craftsmanship over the years.
