北洋医学堂沿革考

History of Imperial Medical College Tientsin

北洋医学堂是中国近代第一所官办西医院校,但是其在晚清、民国时期的沿革相对模糊。笔者运用相关历史文献,认为北洋医学堂起源于1881年的北洋医学馆,1893年更名为北洋医学堂,1912年或1913年更名为北洋医学校。其后呈现"一树两支"的发展,一支历经直隶公立医学专门学校、河北大学医科、河北省立医学院、河北医学院等数次更名延续至今,另外一支于1917年更名为海军医学校,1933年因经费问题停办。

Imperial Medical College Tientsin was the first western medical school run by the government in modern China. Its evolution in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China was relatively obscure. Based on relevant historical documents, the author believes that the Imperial Medical College Tientsin originated from Beiyang Medical Hall in 1881, and was renamed Beiyang Medical College in 1893 and Beiyang Medical School in 1913. Later, one branch developed into Zhili Public Medical School, Hebei University of Medical College, Hebei Provincial Medical College and Hebei Medical College. In 1917, the other branch was renamed Naval Medical School, which was closed due to financial problems in 1933.
