网络通识教育属于教育范畴的类型之一,其目标是:在多元化的现代社会背景下,提供为不同人群所接纳的知识和价值观,供教育者学习。网络通识教育的英文名称为"general education"或"liberal Study",也有学者译为"普通教育""一般教育""通才教育"。[1]所谓的网络通识教育,实际上就是,认为人的培养仅仅使用专业知识的大众是不够的,而应该让学生能够更好的适应现代社会,适应各项教育的发展需要,建立起更加完善而全面的人格和人才的知识结构。因此对于人性的关怀、人文的觉醒和人类文明多元化的潜能开发,打造全面而更加接近社会需求的知识结构更为重要。推广网络通识教育的实质,就是一种完善现代教育的过程,是适应我国高等教育改革向纵深发展的一个典型的发展步调。
