The 85 Years'Saga of Fung Ping Shan Library at the University of Hong Kong

香港大学冯平山图书馆创建于一九三二年,迄今八十五载,一直致力秉承传统﹐宏扬中华文化,促进学术交流。经历任馆长和馆员的不懈努力,冯平山图书馆已成为海内外遐迩闻名的东亚图书馆。欣逢华诞,作者特志文回溯冯平山图书馆的历史。本文分为五个部分:第一部分回顾馆史,阐明创建人的理念,详述该馆的发展历程和历任馆长的贡献;第二部分展示冯平山图书馆的文化角色,特别是在抗战期间保护文物的功绩;第三部分主要介绍进入二十一世纪以来馆藏的发展情况;第四部分枚举冯平山图书馆近年来与海内外学术图书馆的合作与联系;结语是祝愿冯平山图书馆继往开来﹐更进一步。

Established in 1932,Fung Ping Shan Library at the University of Hong Kong has committed itself to inheriting Chinese tradition,enhancing Chinese culture,and promoting academic exchange for the past 85 years.Through the unremitting endeavors of its leaders and staff Fung Ping Shan Library has lifted itself up to become one of the major East Asian libraries in the world.In honor of the 85"jubilee of Fung Ping Shan Library,the authors contribute this article tolook back on its epic history.This article has five parts.The first part reviews the history of the library,the philosophy of its founder,the course of its development,its mission,and the accomplishments made by the library's successive leaders.Then it goes on to recount the heroic deeds of the library in protecting cultural relics during the Sino-Japanese war.In the third part,the article enumerates the achievements made by the library in the 21"century,and in the fourth part the focus is on the library's professional cooperation efforts with academic peers around the world.Finally,the authors hope that Fung Ping Shan Library will carry forward its outstanding traditions of the past 85 years and strongly forge ahead into the future.
