Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching is the Taoist classics while Thoreau’s Walden the"green"Bible".Though across time and space,both of them contain common wisdom on maintaining health,that is,to adhere to natural law and practice it,to be altruistic and frugal and desire less,to stress the unity of body and mind and to be static and dynamic,to follow the way of life and value virtue,and to remain humble and respect all forms of life,so as to enjoy a healthier and happier life.Tracing back into the history we can find that traditional Chinese culture exerted great influence on American culture and Thoreau’s thought echoes Lao Tzu’s,in which caring about life and health is becoming quite conspicuous in the present world threatened with ecological deterioration.
