In the 1920s,the native elites in Hong Kong had positive responses to the New Culture Movement, the Vernacular Movement and the New Literature Movement on the China's Mainland, particularly in Guangzhou, its near neighbour. However, such a phenomenon was short-lived,having attracted little active sattention in the subsequent research.A digging into such early native historical literature as Hong Kong Cequn could deepen the understanding of the cultural context in Hong Kong post May 4th and of the cultural relationships between Hong Kong and Guangdong in the period of Republic of China, furthering new reflections on the multi-lingual context that happened in the new literature. The unique cultural space and historical context in Hong Kong remind us that the writing of a regional literary history requires making up for the lacuna in the grand narrative and going beyond the localized native narrative.
