Periphery, Border-Crossing, Moving Images: The Problems of Asian Cinema in English Scholarship

摘要 现有英语学术视野中,亚洲电影常被看作"世界电影"的一部分,其在研究、教学等方面均因这一话语框架的局限而仅为全球影史与理论的补充性参照与点缀;(新)亚洲电影被视为当代亚洲电影产业崛起之后跨国电影生产与流通的一种命名策略和分析对象,但其"当代性"的话语幻象,遮蔽了20世纪殖民主义与全球冷战时序中"亚洲电影"的历史性建构;近年一些新兴研究将亚洲电影文化理解为"亚洲间流动影像",或可为未来亚洲电影研究提供思辨和批判讨论的空间。 Asian cinema is not an integrated category of films, but an assemblage of social imaginaries that largely need to be problematized. In the current English scholarship, films produced in Asia are often understood to be part of world cinema;due to the conceptual limits of world cinema, Asian cinema becomes the decorative and the alternative to the global film historiography and theorization. Meanwhile, new Asian cinema has been regarded as both an industrial strategy of naming and an object of analysis since the rise of contemporary Asian film industry. However, the discursive illusion of such contemporality obscures the historical construction of Asian cinema embedded within the twentieth-century colonialism and global Cold War order. An emerging body of scholarship has seen Asia’s cinema culture as inter-Asian moving images, which might offer some potential space for further reflection and critical engagement.
