Objective:To explore the status quo of the locomotive syndrome(LS)and subthreshold depression(SD)in rural elderly and the relationship between the both. Methods:A staged random sampling method was used to select 430 elderly people from 5 administrative villages in northern Henan province as the survey subjects. The general information questionnaire, the Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale(GLFS),and the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS-15)were used to investigate the elderly. Then the correlation analysis and influencing factors were analyzed. Results:The incidence of LS in the rural elderly was 29.3%,and the incidence of SD was22.3%.Logistic regression analysis showed that age, fear of falling,3 or more chronic diseases, and SD were risk factors of LS in the elderly. And education level, family annual average income, and LS were risk factors for the occurrence of SD.Spearman correlation analysis showed that LS was positively correlated with SD(r=0.446,P<0.001).Conclusions:The incidence of LS and SD of the elderly in rural areas was relatively higher. They were positively correlated and mutual causality. Therefore, nursing staff should pay attention to patients’SD status while paying attention to the motor function of the elderly.
