Based on the theory of event proposed by Eagleton,Deleuze, and Komori Yoichi, this paper attempts to analyze the eventfulness of American contemporary writer Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Everything is Illuminated, and holds that the novel adopts the technique of first-person testimonial narrative, constantly calling eventfulness out of the text, and generating the reading events with readers’ engagement. At the same time,by employing postmodern narrative techniques,Foer discusses the postmodern metahistory in the text, creating dialogues between the text and history, and generating current events as well as contemporary history over readers’ reading process. The novel also reflects Foer’s attempt to overcome the resistance of time and space to get out of the predicament of contemporary Traumatic Literature in witnessing history.
