Localization of Western Technologies:Raymond T.Moyer and the Modernization of Shanxi Agriculture

民国时期穆懿尔担任山西太谷铭贤学校的农科主任,以发展山西农业为己任。面对中国北方独特而陌生的自然环境与劳作传统,他从农民需求出发,灵活运用并调整美国农业经验与模式,开辟出以本土化的美国科技改良地方农业的路径。同时,他与金陵大学的农学家保持互动,构建起民国农学家的北方网络。

Raymond T.Moyer served as the director of the agricultural department at Ming Hsien School in Taigu,Shanxi and took on the task of modernizing Shanxi agriculture.Facing the unfamiliar natural environment and farming traditions,based on peasants’needs,Moyer adjusted American agricultural experience and model,pioneering the path to improve Shanxi agriculture with localized American technologies.While maintaining interactions with agronomists of Nanking University,he constructed the northern network of agronomists in the Republic of China.
