Brief Report on the Excavation of the Western Han Well at Zoumalou and Unearthed Bamboo and Wooden Slips in Changsha City

一、地理位置与发掘概况2003年11月,长沙市文物考古研究所配合湖南省供销社综合大楼建设进行考古发掘工作。在建设工地内清理了一批古代水井。其中编号为J8的古井中出土了一批西汉武帝时期的简牍,现将此处古并及简牍的发掘情况简报如下。

Pre-construction excavation at the Hunan Provincial Supply and Marketing Cooperative Complex,jointly conducted by the Changsha City Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and Changsha Museum of Bamboo and Wooden Slips in November 2003,uncovered a group of ancient water wells.2,191 bamboo and wooden slips were retrieved from well No.8(J8),along with a number of pottery vessels and pottery architectural components.Most of the slips consist of ancient documents,covering multiple aspects of the Changsha kingdom,ranging from the administrative system,governmental system,official examinations and evaluations,reform of the judicial punishment system,to justice and lawsuits.Slips from well No.8 are likely official administrative documents dating to the reign of Emperor Wu of Han or to the early reign of King Kang Liu Yong—the second generation of the kings of the Changsha kingdom.They provide invaluable data for study of the evolution of the Han Dynasty judicial system,especially the state of the judicial system within kingdoms.
