The Evolution of the Suffix Sheng 生 in Wu Dialects

近代汉语已有"数量+生","生"是后缀,发展演变到现代吴语有了很大变化,具体表现在:(1)数量+名+生;(2)数+名+生;(3)量+生;(4)量打/加量+生;(5)量量+生;(6)数量+生/相;(7)动/形+量+生;(8)指示代词+量+生;(9)量词为动量词与时量词。(10)形容词+生;(11)"数量+生"的词汇化。

The numeral+quantifier+sheng 生 construction appeared in modern Chinese.As a suffix,sheng 生 has changed a lot in Wu dialects today,as in constructions like numeral+quantifier+noun+sheng 生 ,numeral+noun+sheng 生 ,quantifier+sheng 生 ,quantifier+da 打/jia 加+sheng 生 ,quantifier+quantifier+sheng 生 ,numeral+quantifier+sheng 生 /xiang相,verb/adverb+quantifier+sheng 生 ,demonstrative pronoun+quantifier+sheng 生 ,adverb+sheng 生 ,and also has changed when the quantifier is verbal or temporal.This paper also discusses about the lexicalization of the numeral+quantifier+sheng 生 construction.
