Return to the Origin of the Traditional Translation Theory in China

为了摆脱中国传统译论的困境,论文运用回归中国传统译论原点的研究思路,历时梳理中国传统译论的发展脉络与概念史,追溯其文史哲美传统。研究结果发现:中国传统译论在历史发展过程中形成"信"和"美"两条主线,境界哲学是其哲学基础,境界是其元范畴,在理论性质上表现为三个合一。这四个研究发现重新认识了中国传统译论的当代价值与现实意义。

This paper focuses on the origin of traditional Chinese translation theory through a review of its historical development in terms of its philosophical,aesthetic and literary foundations. It is found,among other things,that traditional Chinese translation theory contains two important conceptual terms: "fidelity"and"beauty",which have developed along two parallel trajectories. Then a fairly detailed discussion is presented,touching upon different realms concerned. This paper is written with a view to calling on the colleague scholars’ attention to the significance of taking stock of traditional Chinese translation theory,so that the elements of its core value could enter productively into contemporary translation studies.
