Overseas Chinese and City Construction of Vladivostok in the Late 19th Century

19世纪末,大量的华人①参与到符拉迪沃斯托克城市建设中来。他们多是在国内衣食无着的社会底层人员,为了生计来此。在符拉迪沃斯托克城市建设中他们主要从事没有太多技术含量要求、以出卖劳动力为生的工作,仅有少数人是以工程承包者身份参与城市建设。华人为19世纪末符拉迪沃斯托克城市建设作出了一定贡献,他们的到来满足了符拉迪沃斯托克市政建设对廉价劳动力的需求。

Large numbers of overseas Chinese participated in the construction of the city of Vladivostok in the late 19th century.Most of them were people at the bottom of the society who have no food or clothing at home,coming here for a living.In the construction of Vladivostok they were mainly engaged in the work without too many technical requirements and by selling labor.Only a few people participated in urban construction as contractors.Overseas Chinese contributed to the urban construction of Vladivostok at the end of the 19th century.Their arrival met the demand for cheap labor for the construction of Vladivostok’s municipal infrastructure.
