The monks of the Western Regions who entered the Central Plains from the“Silk Road”aroused the curiosity and attention of the people of the Tang Dynasty because of their special appearance, language and behavior. The Tang people admired the Buddhist monks of the Western Regions who had travelled thousands of miles to the Central Plains to pass on the Dharma, showing their respect and acceptance of foreign cultures. The eastward spread of Buddhism not only enriched Chinese culture, but also left many amazing cultural landscapes along the routes and in the Central Plains,Southwest China and Southeast China. An important reason for the Tang Empire's great prestige throughout Asia was its open religious policies and its status as the world's Buddhist center, second only to India.
