劳森、丛林与现实主义:论劳森作品的丛林意象与民族想象

Lawson,Bush and Realism:An Interpretation of Bush Images in Henry Lawson’s Works

亨利·劳森是澳大利亚民族主义时期经典作家,他的现实主义丛林书写开创了澳大利亚丛林现实主义小说创作先河。本文对劳森丛林小说文本现实主义特征及其民族内涵进行了全面考察。研究认为,劳森现实主义书写对澳大利亚丛林意象的建构表达了他对澳大利亚早期丛林人艰辛生存状况的关注和对澳大利亚民族发展的关切;劳森围绕丛林现实建构的丛林孤独、丛林抗争与丛林情谊等多重主题,意在凸显丛林人对澳大利亚民族身份建构的贡献;劳森以丛林书写建构的丛林意象表达了其澳大利亚民族建构的丛林理想,也表达了劳森作为澳大利亚民族主义文学奠基人对澳大利亚民族的想象。

Henry Lawson is one of the greatest classic writers in Australia.This paper,based on the textual analysis of Lawson’s bush writings,explores his poems,prose works and essays on his construction of Australian bush images.By depicting bush workers'realistic and harsh life,Lawson establishes himself as a realist writer.As a realist writer,he not only shows his great sympathy with bush workers'harsh and severe living conditions,but also shoulders a realist writer’s responsibility by hoping to improve bush workers'living standard and establish Australia as an independent nation enshrined with bush ethos.
