On the "Other" Problem in the Book Sinking by Yu Dafu

在郁达夫的作品《沉沦》中,主人公“他”始终怀有一种“复仇”心理,当复仇心理、性冲动和热爱自然等诸多特点同时投射在“他”身上时,便形成了“他”复杂而多元的立体人格。这背后,指向的是“他”多重的“他者”身份,而身份和文化上的双重“他者”又导致了“他”病态的心理,最终表现为反常的“复仇”话语,并酿成最终的“零余者”悲剧。

In the book Sinking by Yu Dafu,the hero "he" always wants to revenge. "He" has many characteristics such as vengeful thought,sexual impulse,and love for nature,which all form his complicated,different and distinct personality.This means that "he" has multiple identifies of "others".The double "others" in identity and culture lead to a pathological mental state of "he" and finally result in abnormal"revenge"words and the "the unwanted" .
