苍术明目的原理可以从“燥湿明目”和“补虚明目”两方面进行阐述:“燥湿明目”时常配伍辛、甘之品,主要功效在调动、恢复脾的运化功能,使得痰湿水饮等阴邪得以祛除,清阳得以“开升上承”,使眼目、清窍无阴霾翳障蒙蔽,则阳足、“日足”而目明;“补虚明目”常配伍补益肝肾之品,意在调动、恢复脾胃化生气血功能,使气血得以化生,精血得以济给,眼目得以荣养,则阴足、“月足”而目明。
