Impact of Cultural Spirit of Lingnan Area on Yu Jing and His Poems

岭南偏离中央政治权力中心,但在文化上逐渐向中原靠拢。先秦以来,中原士人不断将中原文化传入岭南,经唐张九龄等的促进,岭南文化呈现出以儒为主,释、道结合的文化特征,并逐渐形成爱乡、誉乡的地域文化精神、创新精神、利民精神等岭南文化精神。宋代余靖受其浸润,养成清正刚直、英勇无畏的优秀道德品质,形成鞠躬尽瘁、忠君爱国的思想境界和敢于进谏、关注民生、坚持原则的为官之道,并在诗文中将这种精神折射出来。

Although far away from the central political authority,the culture of Lingnan area(referred to as Guangdong and Guangxi in the paper)was believed to gradually converge with that of the central China.Since the Pre-Qin Dynasty period(ranging from the Old Stone Age to 221B.C.),the culture of Lingnan area had been characterized by a hybridized structure with confucianism functioning as a main body,while merged with Buddhism and Taoism,because scholars from the central China had frequently been introducing their own culture into the Lingnan area,particularly with the active cultural promotion by Zhang Jiuling from the Tang Dynasty.In addition,the culture of Lingnan area witnessed the gradual emergence of a regional cultural spirit embodying the ardent love for the hometown,constant innovation and benefiting the people.Having long been exposed to such humanistic environment,Yu Jing,a man of virtue from Lingnan area in the Song Dynasty,endeavored to serve his country with real loyalty to the throne;meanwhile,he stuck to the well-being of the people when staying in office.His cultural spirit was naturally revealed in his poems as a result.
