A Variorum and Reinterpretation of Ibis--One of the Eighteen Songs of Gu Chui Nao Ge of Han Dynasty

《朱鹭》是乐府古辞《汉鼓吹铙歌十八曲》中争议较大的曲目,该曲约于武帝时期被编入乐府,极有可能是来自江浙一带的民间歌谣;以往研究对《朱鹭》曲辞考订的分歧集中于篇首“朱鹭鱼以乌路訾邪”与篇末“诛(一作谏)”字,在这一点上,考之当以“鱼以乌路,訾邪”为声字,并取“诛”字为正;以江苏民歌为参照可以发现,《朱鹭》清简鲜活,是一首在劳动中产生的、生活气息强烈的民歌,前辈学者对《朱鹭》旨意持有的战阵说与政谏说超出了阐释边界,情爱说与祈福说亦可。

Ibis is one of the most controversial pieces in the Eighteen Songs of Gu Chui Nao Ge of Han Dynasty.This ballad was compiled into Yuefu in Emperor Wu’s period and it’s most likely a folk song from Jiangsu and Zhejiang.The divergences in previous research of Ibis focus on the sentences at the beginning and the end of the ballad.Taking the folk ballads of Jiangsu as a reference,it can be found that Ibis is simple and fresh and a folk song produced in labor with strong life atmosphere.Some scholars believed that Ibis symbolizes battle array and political admonition,however,the author its meaning is more likely to be love and blessings.
