Classification and Causation of the Character Interchange in Tangut Texts

西夏文献中广泛存在的通假现象可以分为三种类型,即西夏语内部引发的通假、汉语内部引发的通假,以及与西夏语和汉语同时相关的通假。通假以语音形式的相同或相近为基础,其间表现出的现象超出了已知的语音转换规则范围。通假现象多见于佛教作品,是西夏时代承袭唐宋佛经译场组织形式的产物。

The character interchange in Tangut texts may be classified into three categories,namely,phonetic interchange caused within Tangut internally,within Chinese internally and concerning both Tangut and Chinese Language.Based on phonetic identity or similarity,the phonetic alternation rules shown by the interchange are out of the scope already known.The phenomena frequently appearing in Buddhist literature prove to be a result of the Tang-Song traditional formation of translation workshop followed by Xixia.
