Rethinking the Relationship between Literature and Morality

关于文学与道德的关系,历来存在不同甚至对立的观点。有人主张文学应为道德服务,也有人主张文学具有独立的价值,不应把道德教化的使命强加在文学头上。上述两种观点皆有偏颇之处,文学不必刻意进行道德说教,但引导人类的心灵进入一种更高远更纯净的境界则无疑是其最重要的使命之一,而这在一定程度上其实体现了文学的道德功能。

There have always been different and even opposing views on the relationship between literature and morality. Some people argue that literature should serve morality, while others argue that literature has independent value and should not impose the mission of moral education on literature. We believe that the above two views are biased, literature does not have to deliberately carry out moral preaching, but to guide the human mind into a higher and purer realm is undoubtedly one of its most important missions, which in fact reflects the moral function of literature to a certain extent.
